NP Practice Bill Out for Review from The Select Committe on Healthcare Workforce Innovation

This week the Select Committee on Health Care Work Force Innovation released their committee bill that greatly impacts your NP practice.

While this is one of the most positive bills offered in many years supporting NPs we have some concerns. The diligent efforts of FNPN, FNA, AANP and several NP leaders and stakeholders in our state have proven the value of NPs to our state lawmakers and we like much of the bill.

The bill redefines our legal title Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) inline with IOM report, but has also created two levels of NP titles including a new term Independent APRN (IAPRN) after 3 yrs postmasters degree while being supervised initally. There is a required for grad level pharmcoogy course which has been offered for many years per NONPF recommendations.

There are many good parts but some of grave concern, so I ask every one to read this 155 page document with a keen eye and reply back to FNPN legislative team or lobbyist. Try to refer to your concerns by the line number on the left margin please. The Bill link is this:

This bill will be discussed in committee on February 10th, 3:30-6:30 pm in Morris Hall (17 HOB). FNPN will be there to represent those who cannot attend. If you can attend, please join us!
